Description
The typical method of using isotretinoin is to take a dose of 0.5 to 1 mg/kg body weight per day, so that the maximum daily dose is 100mg for a person of 2201b. Exceptional cases may require a higher dosage of up to 2mg/kg/day. The daily dose itself is divided into two equal doses, to be administered at two different times of the day.
Isotretinoin should also be taken with meals, not on an empty stomach, as food greatly enhances absorption (high-fat meals have the greatest effect on bioavailability). A typical treatment cycle of 15 to 20 weeks is generally sufficient to eliminate or at least control the patient’s condition. However, if necessary, the physician can initiate a second treatment cycle. This must follow an interruption of at least two months in the first treatment.
