Description

Thyroxine is a thyroid hormone formed by the condensation of two molecules of the amino acid tyrosine. Also known as T4 hormone for tetra-iodothyronine, the thyroxine molecule contains four iodine atoms and is structurally similar to another thyroid hormone: tri-iodothyronine or T3, which has three iodine atoms.
